located the problem causing fuel exhaust smell in car

i have this problem of a fuel or exhaust smell in the cabin and it's really suffocating like when i'm sitting a long time. for such a long time i wondered if i could isolate the smell and get t into the heating system. what i did was looked for bulkhead leaks. apparently the ac condensate tube is the problem of it all. the tube that's supposed to drain water but not let air and dirt enter was jst wide open. so it's been taking in bad air from the exhaust with leaks so that's why the smell is so bad since the very same air gets into the cabin. just so i can prove i'm not really overthinking this i did a pressure test. what i did temporarily was seal the tube but this might need replacing. i'm schedulign a meet with the dealer this friday. if you have any idea what i can do or if experienced the problem already please help

i've dealt with similar issues before and while the ac drain tube being wide open can let in some fumes it's usually not the root cause the bigger concern is why exhaust is even accumulating in that area in the first place from my experience it's often due to a small exhaust leak near the manifold or downpipe that gets pulled into the cabin through weak seals or openings in the firewall what i'd recommend is checking for any leaks along the exhaust system especially near connection points and gaskets also inspect the weather stripping and grommets around the bulkhead sometimes worn seals let air and fumes get sucked into the hvac system a quick way to check is to run the engine and spray soapy water on the exhaust connections if you see bubbles forming that's a leak that needs fixing sealing the drain tube might help a bit but it's more of a band-aid fix if fumes are getting in you need to find and stop the source

you're definitely on the right track with your diagnosis. but yeah before anything can you check first the ac condensate replacement is possible? also check the cabin filter too.

I would also check the flapper valves below the rear bumper, if stuck open then can also cause you to notice fuel or exhaust smells

What happened during the meet with the dealer? Hopefully the issue got resolved, yeah?

Want an update regarding this, too like @Jabbawockeez. If it didn't work with the dealer then maybe bring your Trax to an HVAC specialist since the component is related with that anyway.
