Problem with 2021 Chevy Trax

My mom bought a 2021 Trax and it's kind of weird.
So, when it's hot out and stuck in that annoying stop and go traffic it feels like the engine's about to totally die.

It doesn't actually stall, but my mom said that it feels like her soul was almost left her body lol

Then, when the traffic finally starts moving and she hits the gas, the car just kinda coughs and chugs and doesn't want to go anywhere.
She needs to floor it just to get it up to like 35 or 40 mph.
haha, it reminds me of those old four barrel carburetors where the first two barrels open up, but the other two just don't kick in. It's got about 38,000 miles on it.

We tried to take the car to the dealership, but they basically shrugged and said they couldn't find anything wrong. Seriously? what should we do here?

I suggest you note it when it happens and if your dealer is not helping, try going to another.

I know a guy who drove a 2020 Trax and had similar issues when caught in heavy traffic and pulling out of a parking lot.. Last I heard he got a recall letter but I haven't got updates since. It looks like a common problem.. good luck!

hahaha, love the carb reference. but yeah that stop-and-go heat issue plus the bogging under throttle might be due to weak fuel pump or clogged fuel filter or failing maf sensor and throttle body. the issues only revolve around those. what you can do is to bring it to a repair shop that's certified the dealer shrugged it off? nothing new there lol

did a quick research, the Trax's turbocharged engine might also be the cause. It may lag, particulalry if the turbo isn't generating enough boost pressure. This may cause a lack of power when required and delayed acceleration

HAHAHA. Your mom is quite into the theatrics, but I do understand the sensation she's saying. Dealers usually turn a blind eye if it's gonna cost them more if there's still warranty LOL. Would you mind bringing it into a checker first, a professional one, get certification from them and bring to the dealer to say "IN YOUR FACE!"

A classic sign of a lean condition when you're putting the engine under load could be a sluggish MAF sensor, a weak fuel pump, or some trouble with the throttle body. Heat can make these issues even more pronounced. Just because there are no codes doesn't mean everything's fine. I recommend having a shop record live data while you're driving; that way, you can check out the fuel trims and see if there's any delay in the throttle response

gosh, poor mom. I hate when the dealership acts like this. for me, looks like it could be a faulty mass airflow sensor acting up when hot. but I'll take the car to another dealer if I were you
